Esme fell in love with Carlisle as a young girl. She found him again as a married woman who had left her husband. On the verge of death, Carlisle turned her into a vampire and they have been together since. Having had a child in her human life, Esme fell naturally into the role of mother figure in the Cullen family, and now grandmother to Renesmee. She stands with Carlisle and the rest of the Cullens against the Volturi.
Jasper Whitlock Hale

“Well done, Bella. I’ve never seen a newborn show that kind of restraint.”
Jasper was an officer in the Civil War and is a newer member of the Cullen clan. Jasper loves Alice and would do anything for her. He met Alice in a diner, where she was waiting for him (having seen their meeting in the future), and she took him to the Cullens.
Of all the Cullens, Jasper is the least used to being a “vegetarian” vampire. This makes it hard for him to see the ease with which Bella is able to control herself as a newborn vampire. When the Cullens learn of the Volturi threat, he leaves with Alice to find help and information that will convince the Volturi that Renesmee is not a danger.
Dr. Carlisle Cullen

“Aro, you see there’s no law broken here.”
The son of a clergyman obsessed with rooting out all evil, Carlisle was bitten during a vampire hunt. After becoming a vampire, Carlisle learned to hunt animals so that he would not have to feed on humans. In his long life as a vampire, he spent some time with the Volturi, but eventually left when they continued to try to change his mind about feeding on humans.
Over the years he has created a family made up of Esme, Edward, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper & Emmett. They all live as “vegetarian” vampires and Carlisle cares for them all very much.
When Alice sees that the Volturi have made the decisions that will lead to a confrontation over Renesmee, Carlisle asks other vampires and covens he has met over the years to be witnesses and allies to Renesmee’s growth and the fact that she is not an Immortal Child and thus destroying the Volturi’s pretext for punishing the Cullens.
Emmett McCarty Cullen

Emmett’s favorite food is grizzly bear, possibly in recompense for one having nearly killed him. Before he died to the bear wound, Rosalie convinced Carlisle to turn him into a vampire. Emmett took being a vampire in stride, reasoning that if Carlisle and Rosalie were, then it couldn’t be that bad. Now that Bella is a newborn vampire, she finally arm-wrestles Emmett and beats him with her newborn strength. He takes it with his typical sense of humor. Like Rosalie, he stands with the rest of the Cullens to protect Renesmee.
Rosalie Lillian Hale

Before turning into a vampire, Rosalie was the most beautiful girl in her town. In retrospect, she regards her human life as perfect – all she wanted was to get married and have a husband and baby of her own. With the birth of Renesmee, Rosalie is a natural caretaker when Bella and Edward are busy. Sometimes she is a rival to Jacob in terms of making sure Renesmee is cared for. When the Volturi arrive, Rosalie stands with her family and their allies.
Mary Alice Brandon Cullen

Quirky and fun, Alice adopted Bella into her life easily as she saw visions of the future and knew they’d be friends – and now, sisters. When Irina sees Renesmee and runs to the Volturi, Alice has a vision of the future – a chain of events has been set into motion that will inevitably result in the Volturi leaving Volterra and coming to Forks to fight the Cullens.
As the rest of the Cullens prepare for battle, Alice and Jasper flee, leaving behind only a page from a book for Bella, putting her in touch with a shadowy lawyer. As they travel deep into South America, they find the Amazon coven and send them to help the rest of the Cullens, as Alice tries to find evidence of other vampire/human hybrids.
